We Don’t Have Much to Lose!
As teenagers, we are not responsible for paying expenses such as rent, utility bills, or insurance. So even if our business idea is unsuccessful, we do not have to risk any serious financial consequences, or worry about failing to meet financial obligations ("Teen Entrepreneurs: 10 Reasons Why Every Teen Should Become an Entrepreneur", n.d.).
We Are More Creative!
Creativity and innovation are the foundation of a successful entrepreneurial venture, and are essential in developing a unique business idea. According to a study conducted by UC Berkeley, creativity generally declines with age, meaning teenage entrepreneurs tend to be more creative than adults (Venkatraman, 2017). This gives us a major advantage in developing original business ideas to tackle the world’s problems!
Our Inquisitive Nature!
We recognize that those older than us are wiser and more experienced, and thus tend to be more comfortable asking questions and seeking help from others. This is another crucial component of entrepreneurship. Not only does being inquisitive assist us in developing business ideas, but it also allows us to grow and improve by actively seeking feedback throughout our entrepreneurial journey ("Why Young Entrepreneurs Are Positioned to Succeed", 2020).
We are Accustomed to Rapid Innovation!
We are growing up in a time where rapid innovation is at its peak, and are used to seeing quick changes and improvements in our everyday lives through technological developments. This constant exposure to innovation allows us to view it from a much more open-minded perspective, which may assist us in developing more creative and innovative business ideas ("Why Young Entrepreneurs Are Positioned to Succeed", 2020).
We are More Open to Risk-Taking!
Launching any entrepreneurial venture involves some level of risk, as the time and money put into the venture may not always produce the projected outcome. Teenagers are generally more inclined to test limits, experiment, and take risks. Having this quality naturally gives us a major advantage, and makes it easier for us to actually follow-through with our business idea (Stach, 2016).
